Question:
Anyone who knows a thing about fashion: Why do people think Abercrombie is fashionable?

People can dress however they want. I'm just sick of people telling me I don't know anything about fashion. I sew, take fashion design classes at RISD in the summers, watch and review fashion shows, write a fashion blog and read other ones every day. I spend hours watching videos of Alexander McQueen's crazy and beautiful shows and reading articles about fashion on style.com. I think I can say I know a bit about it for my age, which is 13.

This girl is wearing an Abercrombie top and jeans. She looks pretty in this picture, I guess, and that will make most people think she has a sense of style because she knows what makes her look attractive. That's not what true fashion is about. Fashion is about creating a sculpture to put on a model, as an art form, to inspire people and to create beauty. It is not about girls wearing exactly what was on the mannequin and having no creativity at all.

Tavi Gevinson is my role model and I love what she does. Here's a random outfit of hers from Google.

She obviously thought about what she was wearing a lot. She didn't say "This makes me look skinny!" or "I like blue, let's get this!" She thought about things that inspired her, textures, different ways to hang fabrics on her body. She is a fashion genius.

Why do people think wearing mix-and-match tops and bottoms makes you fashionable? Because you look good in it? So?
BQ: Describe to me your sense of style and whether or not you think you are 'fashionable'.

Why we wear Abercrombie is because it IS fashionable. They stay up to trend and have quality, adorable clothes. Not everyone(Like ME) just buys exactly what they saw online. I'll buy a lace skirt and match it with a striped fitted tee from there to mix patterns and textures. Maybe add a thick belt. Abercrombie may be a stereotypical, very advertised brand, but that doesnt mean that it isnt fashionable and quality. And I'm 15 and love fashion and know somethings or two about it for my age, also. So maybe you shouldn't hate on Abercrombie. If it was its brother store, Hollister, which is less quality for more, then I would understand. But Abercrombie is classic clothing and trendy clothes. THATS why people like it. Its up to date with a classis flair. Which everyone loves. And about Alexander McQueen. He did amazing, gorgeous pieces of work and I loved his work. So dont you see? I keep up with the fashion world with people like Alexander and Chanel and Christian Siriano, but I wear Abercrombie. So I can say for everyone: People wear Abercrombie because it has great fit which EVERYONE loves, its trendy, classic, and popular. So please, dont ask stupid questions like this. Abercrombie would NOT be as popular as it is if it had crappy, ugly clothes. And youre probably thinking..well they advertise like crazy with their clothes, BUT... they would never be able to if they're clothes sucked. So like I said before, stop being so stereotypical of people and try being a less modest tween. I made my point. And I hope you have more respect for other styles and brands from now on. And good luck with youre super awesome, know-it-all, fashion crap.

Well really fashion kind of is about making people look good. Designers are artist and they do make amazing things, but they don't just make clothing for the clothing to look good, they make it so the people that wear it look good too. Alexander McQueen's fashion that you see on the runway, is just that. Runway fashion. Your not supposed to actually wear those outfits you see, because that would look ridiculous in an everyday situation. All runway clothing is to inspire your everyday outfits, your supposed to take the looks and tone them down to something you could actually wear, because on the runway their taking these trends and intensifying them so you can get a good idea of what the trend is. The people that make runway outfits aren't expecting you to actually wear them; yes on the runway it is more about the clothing then how it makes the person look, but they want you to turn it into something that would flatter your body.

I wouldn't necessarily think a girl the wears a tee shirt and jeans has good fashion sense, but I would think she had a better sense of style than a girl who wore weird runway clothes.

In my opinion to have good fashion sense you need to know how to put your clothing together, like colors, fabrics, textures, the way your clothing hangs, but also how to make clothing look good on you. You can have all the runway fashions down to a science but if you don't know how to make it work on you for an everyday look than the only thing it's good for is if your a super high fashion designer, and even super high fashion designers can't just wear fashion that looks good, they have to look good in it. But if your an everyday person no ones going to think you have great fashion sense, their just going to think you can't figure it out lol. I think it's good to have clothes that inspire you and make a statement, but if they don't look good it won't be a good statement. I can definitely see where your coming from though, I think you just have a little bit different definition of fashion and style then most people. Since you think of fashion the way you do, it sounds like you'll do better in the high end crazy fashion world lol. Best of luck :)!!

People dress to make THEMSELVES look attractive, not the clothes. Most people don't care about how they showcase the clothes, they care about how the clothes make them look. People dress to impress each other. When a teen guy looks at a teen girl, they say, "Oh wow, that girl has a great rack" not "Oh, wow, the way she pair those shoes with that dress just pops." I get what your saying, and that's true for designers and people in the fashion world. Most people aren't crazy about fashion, their just crazy about they way fashion can help certain features and downgrade bad ones.

Oh, and my sense of style is kind of romantic, or bohemian. I like vintage, and flare cut jeans. LOTS of lace and embellishments.

i think its because people dress for a social status, and to satisfy themselves, so if people wanna fit in, they buy abercrombie becuz its popular. but, what i just said, i wudnt really call it fashion
