Question:
I want to be a fashion designer?

Since I was little I've had an interest in fashion. I love modeling, and I have the height for it, but I'm big boned and short waisted which is bad for models. I also love designing. Sometimes I'll just be laying around doing nothing and a design pops into my head, and I draw it. I'm not the best at drawing, but I've been told that I have potential as an artist. Anyways, I aspire to be a fashion designer at least by the time I turn 16 or 17 (only 1-2 years away). I have lot's of drawings, and some sample pieces that I have sewed myself. Also pictures of an amazing dress I made for a school project, which ended up getting destroyed because it wasn't completely finished and some guys in my class tried to put it on. How can I get my designs out there in the fashion world? I want to maybe be a model for my designs too, and if I can, hire models who are average, not either super skinny or plus sized which the models out there are these days. I have some friends who are interested in helping, but I don't know how to be "discovered".

Hi!

The sky is the limit. Sometimes, when you are just starting, you have to work a little harder. Look for people who need your services by perhaps scanning online classifieds (just be careful of scammers and whatnot). Or start a website. Or a blog. (Here are some examples: www.howtodrawfashion.com and www.afashionillustrator.com).

You could also create a business card, post your fashion illustrations (with a watermark for protection online) onto a site such as Flickr.com.

Additionally, you could use the free online classifieds out there to post ads to promote your work!

Best Wishes! You can do anything you set your heart to doing.

You need to find a niche that makes you unique and helps you to stand out from the masses.

There's a huge need for great designer Plus Size Fashion.

My friend Gwen loves fur and has become very successful at designing amazing fur coats. She sells everything from her online boutique which is easier and less expensive to set up than a brick and mortar store. She's able to pass the savings on to her clients. She's also been very successful with Plus size fur coats.

If being a fashion designer is what you want then go after your dream. if you also want to model your clothes then wear one of your samples, and posted online like facebook. To get discovered you have to have faith in yourself and designs, also let some of your friends help and model your designs then take pics and post them. If you have faith, there might be a chance that someone might see and like your designs and get your name out there.
