my dad passed away on saturday. the wake is tomorrow and the funeral is on thursday. i went shopping today with my sister and my aunt but only my sister found her whole outfit. i need help finding something to wear to the funeral and the wake too! i'm 14, slim, tall, pale skin, long light brown hair and usually wear light happy preppy colors and stuff so its hard to find black things that i like. i also can't find shoes. if you could give me some suggestions where to find things and stuff then my brother can take me out again tonight. but i don't have a ton of money to spend so i'm shooting for less than $100. i was thinking maybe a babydoll type thing with leggings or a long shirt thing with leggings...idk. i only have a black skirt and white shoes for dressy stuff....
help please!

I understand why you're worrying, it's important that you want to show your dad respect by what you wear. It is important.

I'd suggest the black skirt (if it's a repectful length) and buy a plain white button up shirt and cardigan, you could get that sort of thing cheap at forever21.

If your skirt is too short buy some plain black trousers.

For shoes plain pumps would be fine or if you fancy heels some plain heel courts or mary janes. =]

I'm so sorry about your dad.=[

I understand your concern - unfortunately funerals are just as important as rights of passage as birthdays and while I know you are mourning you want to wear the right thing almost as an honour to your passed dad...

go for a classy black dress, or black pants and smart shirt - if anything get a good coat as it will be cold for his funeral and some comfy shoes.

If your dad had a favorite colour try to wear something with that colour in it as you will feel like you are honouring him

above all keep it smart and simple - fashion has no place at a funeral and you need to be comfortable.

i feel for you, I lost the only dad i ever knew in february and was pregnant and had to go buy a maternity dress for the occassion - it was only worn once and was so surreal buying it knowing i was going to wear it for the saddest occason of my life.

HUGE hugs

so sorry for your loss

Black is the standard, but those old rules are starting to ease up.

Anything that is dark is acceptable.

Skip the "happy" clothes.

Make sure to have something with a pocket as you will need it for tissues or stuff that people hand you. In my case, it was cards and money.

Remember, this is the last time you get to see your father, no one will care or remember in a year what you wore.

I'm 15, and when my dad passed away, I was so distrought I had to ask my friend to find something for me to wear. a black sweater, blue shirt under it, and black pants will be fine. I didn't worry at all about what I was wearing, I was too upset to care.

I'm so sorry! I think you should wear a knee-length black dress with a pair of plain black pumps (you can find them at department stores & Payless) You can buy a basic black shawl at a department store too that will work for any night-time things. Good luck and, once again, I'm sorry.

I realize that this is taking your mind off of your loss...so, here's what I think:

a simple black skirt and some black flats (like ballet slippers) and a purple or violet sweater with maybe a white blouse. (wear some black tights underneath if it is cold!)

Just something very simple and just go to Kohl's or TJMaxx for nice, but cheaper things!

and don't worry - your Dad would be proud of you wanting to look nice for him. My sympathies, hon.

I am sooo sorry to hear about your dad, what about black dress pants and a nice shirt, the shirt doesn't have to be black, it could be dark grey and some nice heels. Be careful with the heels cause small heels sink in grass, wedges would be good.

Wear a pair of dress slacks and a button up shirt. If you wear a skirt, make sure it covers your knees. Don't worry about your shoes.

I am so sorry about your dad. I lost mine when I was young too.

you should wear something simple and cheap.. and it doesnt have to be something you lovee.. make this day more about remembering your father than wearing the cutest thing you can find.. i never want to be out of style so i know how you feel, but your father would just want to know how much you care about him, and it wouldnt matter to him what youre wearing. hope this helps and im soo sorry about your loss.. but he'll always be with you in your heart<33

I do enjoy wearing long skirts once in a while. They are really actually more comfortable than Denims rather than as hot to wear also.

I like young girls in jeans. It makes them look more city like and it doesn't look like they try too much but if you are trying to get this guys attention, this might not exactly be what you would like

Your daughter easily texted me a %of you on the food market this morning with a caption that study, "OMG, my dad is sooo embarising me. want 2 die, 4 reel!" i do no longer understand why her panties have been in this form of twist. i presumed the assless chaps have been a very resourceful twist. via the way, *love* the recent tattoo on the final cheek.

you're going to a funeral, something sombre would be fitting

You can always keep the outfit for more formal occasions

Black and conservative. The plainer the better. You DON'T want to stand out.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and sad that you have to spend time shopping, which isn't that fun. : (

I don't know what shops are close to you but I can think of a few that you should try if they are near:

Charlotte Russe

Forever 21

H&M

Target

Old Navy

Payless Shoes.

All of these shops have contemporary designed pieces and are very cheaply priced.

I would recommend that you invest in a little black dress, because you'll be able to wear it again. I am not sure what the weather is like and if you have to have your shoulders covered, so I would also suggest a wrap, tights/hosiery, and shoes. Unfortunately, I don't think your white shoes will be too helpful here.

Here are some ideas for you:

You don't have to have black everything. You could do greyish tights/hose and also a dark purple or teal wrap instead.

I think you should not go too trendy and try to find something that is classic. You should also ask a friend to come with you for support; and even ask a friend to borrow something so you don't have to deal with shopping.
