I washed my jeans and hang them to dry. I just wore them today and they felt more snug and tight in my ass. I have heard this can happen after washing jeans but is that correct?

Where have you been? Certainly jeans are tighter after they are washed. Then after you wear them they stretch out again.

most jeans are made of cotton and cotton shrinks just washing them

OR something you don't want to hear but is true.......could be just you could be water weight

OR might have put on a pound

just wear them they'll stretch out again

Yes, jeans will shrink a bit when washed. As you wear jeans the denim flexes and stretches amd molds itself to your body. When washed the fibers "tense up" and are no longer molded and shaped to your body. usually they reshape to your body after a few hours of wearing. Usually jeans are washes after being made so the shrinkage is minimal. Denim sold as "raw denim" or "shrink to fit" have a higher shrink rate. One type of Levi's are shrink to fit and are tagged as such.

Try wearing your jeans for a few hours. They should loosen up as you wear them. If the length is the same as before washing then it's simply a matter of wearing and re stretching again. If the jeans are also shorter then something's not right. If this is the first wash contact the place that sold them and tell them there is a defect and that excessive shrinkage is a defect. You might be able to exchange them for another pair.

Yes. A hot wash will shrink the material ' back together ' and depending on how you dried it as well... using a dryer will enhance the affect.
