The others have given you a lot of great information. The only thing that I can add is, go for QUALITY. Not size.

Before you do anything, learn about how diamonds are graded! Also be aware that there is a process ("enhancement") that fills in flaws and makes an imperfect stone closer to perfect. For stud earrings, a round cut is easiest to wear. Finally, pay attention to the setting! For stud earrings, look for a basket rather than crown setting, and get a screw back. Even if you use a nice simulated stone, like Moissanite, a classy setting is key!!!!

Yes, it sounds like your from Britain and I know that in Britain they have shopping channels just like they do in Canada and the US. They have the best deals on jewelry and in Canada they call them Show Stoppers and it's amazing the deals you can get especially now that it's just before Christmas. I've purshased from them hear in Canada and they have the best bargains and the quality is really good. So keep a good eye on your shopping channel and check their web site as well they often have web deals that don't even go to air. You can most likely find a nice pair of earrings in gold or silver with diamonds if you keep checking. Good luck and your girlfriend is lucky to have a guy like you who really wants to try and get her something she really wants, Way to Go.

Well, I think the best bargain for diamonds earrings in your range is Ebay but the problem is quality.
Since you do not know much about jewelry it might be better if you let her get her own diamond earrings. $200 dollars US will not buy very large stones and they will be minute.
Why not go get her a charm bracelet and you can add a nice special charm for celebratory occasions - even a diamond charm
There are some nice English people selling on Ebay who sell vintage jewelry. Go to Ebay and check out their feedback - you can write to them through the Ebay system if you want more information. I would not recommend buying from a seller with less than 99% good feedback and also I would not recommend your buying jewelry from a US seller until you have read all their feedback comments that buyers have made. US sellers do not have much time to get the package to you and with all the terrorism stuff going on today packages for the seasonal gifts will be very much delayed

I am in the USA so I am not sure how your budget translates into dollars. My guess is it would be about $250. For that amount you could get some 1/4 caret diamonds at an inexpensive jewelry store. They would be tiny but pretty and sparkly. Hopefully your girlfriend understands you are not waelthy and does not have expectations that are unrealistic. If she does maybe you should rethink your house purchase together until you straighten her out.

tell your girlfriend that you are trying to buy a damn house!! if she can see the big picture, she will understand. in lieu of those, buy her something less expensive but very personalized. that will probably mean a great deal to her.

My husband gave me one million karat entire weight. i think of they are perfect, yet we've been married 15 years. i assume they are like a protracted service award. I choose an fantastic decrease (around) - greater hearth additionally clearer provide greater hearth too. whether, the version in diamond stubs below one million karat in keeping with diamond isn't nicely well worth the greater $$$. additionally do not forget to be certain you get a DIAMOND BOND with the acquisition of any solitaire. My diamonds are coated for substitute against loss of any style. each six months I take them to the jewellery save to have the backs, positioned up and claws checked. in the event that they choose adjustments they'd usually do it there for not something or in basic terms a nominal value. approximately each 4 years they'd desire to bypass to the jeweller to have upkeep finished. It costs money yet nicely worth it to maintain the enjoyed present from an rather loving husband. in case you pick greater records in basic terms e mail me. Diamonds are my known difficulty.
