Believe it or not, ebay is a really good source for jewelry. You just have to make sure you go with a seller who has made a lot of sales and has a perfect or nearly perfect reputation. (99% or 100%)

This link will take you to pearls on ebay:

Also - ebay is a very competitive marketplace for sellers - you are sure to find a better deal there for pretty much anything. If you don't already have an ebay account, you might want to consider getting one. Like I said, just make sure you buy from a seller with a 99% or better rating and over 100 sales (I would go with over 1000 sales for a jewelry purchase). I have never had any problem as long as I have followed those guidelines.

Good luck!

I would stay away from ebay. I've bought pearls on there before and the nacre was peeling off when they came - there were actually flakes coming off of the pearls. Most pearl sellers on ebay are straight out of China, which means you probably can't send them back. The ones I bought were supposedly AAAA quality Akoya pearls (most people say AAA is the best quality, except for some 'premium' lines that are above that) but like I said, the pearls were falling apart in the box. The thing that shocked me is that dealer had like 98% positive feedback. I guess people don't know anything about pearls b/c the ones I got went straight into the trash can. They only cost me like $15 or something, so I came out ok.

I've heard Tiffany's pearls are only so-so. If you want the very best pearls around, you'd have to get Mikimoto AAA quality, which are pretty much perfect in every way, but they'll cost you thousands of dollars, and you can't buy them online - the only qualities you can get online are like A and A1 quality (which are still nice). That store is at www.mikimotoamerica.com

I've seen pearls from www.nationalpearl.com and www.thepearloutlet.com and the pearls from both companies were very nice - better than most jewelry stores have and they're less than half of what they cost at the jewelry store too. And unlike the ebay guys, they are BBB members and have return policies.

Hope that helps!

I really recommend overstock.com. While they may not have the luxury appeal of Tiffany's of Bvlgari, they do have some great pearls at relatively inexpensive prices.
