Question:
What to Wear Under a Graduation Gown?

I will be graduating with my Master's Degree in 2 weeks. I am also receiving an award from my professors, so I will be sitting on the stage. The gown is maroon, and the Master's hood is marron with a yellow stripe on one side, and a light turquoise on the other.

Should I wear a long skirt/dress that peeks out from under the gown? Dress pants? Short skirt so nothing peeks out?

This is in Arizona, so usually everything is very casual here. But because I am being honored with an award, I'd like to look nicer than casual wear. It is also 9 :00 am.

Thank you :-)

Thanks!

Congratulations on your Master's and your award as well! That is an accomplishment you should be VERY proud of!!!

I would wear something light weight and comfortable. Graduation gowns are not made for comfort, they are polyester that doesn't breathe. I think a cute knee-length strappy sundress would be perfect and then a lightweight sweater or jacket to put on over it when you take your gown off. Wear shoes you are comfortable in....you certainly don't want to fall going across stage, you would just die of embarrassment! LOL

Again, congratulations...and good luck!!!

mmm i think that its basically the norm for girls to wear dresses under there graduation gowns. but if you feel more comfortable in dress pants then you should. but since your being honored, i do think that you should take this chance to dress up more then you nomally would, also i think that your dress would be a little too long if it were to peak out. but it would be nice to wear the dress so after the ceremony you could open the gown so that when you take pictures you will have the dress showing, i think it looks really cute when people do that =]

I suggest you wear a nice average length skirt. The hemline should not be above the your fingertips if you are standing in an upright position. A navy suit would be appropriate for this occasion. Blue is a neutral color. It is important that you are not dressed in a color that suggets your mood. Your acheivement should be the focus. Congratulations!.

i became into homeschooled too! Congratulations on only approximately graduating! i haven't heard of the white dress being huge-unfold. I only wore a advantageous shirt and skirt below. oftentimes it does not rather prepare under the dress, so it does not ought to compare.

I think you should wear a nice white dress, kinda like a summer dress. one that just peaks out of the bottom of the gown, or one that is right above it. (i personally think that right above it looks better) this way you wont get to hot because its a dress, and then right after the graduation you can chilll and still look cute. you will be dressy but not to formal.

i think that is the way to go.

go naked under your gown. no one will notice. it will be like u wearing a skirt underneath.

but if u want to be serious, just wear a suit underneath. and be comfortable.
