i'm a very creative person, i've been interested in fashion since i was in kindergarten. when i was little i would play with everyones hair and cut up my barbie's clothes to make them look the way i wanted. it really is my dream and i would be the happiest person ever if that turned into my career. but everyone has to start somewhere... i've never actually sewed anything or drew out designs but i need to start somewhere. does anyone know of any sites that could help? please?

I'm an aspiring fashion designer too :)

my school happens to offer fashion design as an elective, so that was lucky, but here's some ideas on how to start:

-research, research, research...find books on fashion history, fabrics and construction, fashion icons, etc.

-body proportions: find a book that teaches you how to draw fashion bodies...many books will teach you shoulder and hip angles, the general shape of a torso...that kind of thing will get you started

-inspiration: buy LOTS of magazines...cut out your favorite designs and outfits...however, you can find inspiration anywhere...art, buildings, even on the street..

-beginning design: start off designing clothes on a body stencil ( you can print them for free off the internet) and later start drawing the bodies on your own...that's the hardest part

Another tip is watching Project Runway...those designers are magnificently creative...just look at christian siriano

Good luck! and welcome to the wonderful word of fashion design!!

Your designs are awesome! Such a magnificent talent in a young age. I used to love and active in fashion industry too. But based on your drawings, it is high fashion couture. in this fashion industry, theres alot of competition, and it wasnt easy. your passion and courage will determine how far u can go in this career. and yes i do agree one day you'll be replacing Alexander Mcqueen, Gianmarco Lorenzi or perhaps Roberto Cavalli have a great life, btw the heels are stunning as well

I'm trying to do the ale thing and you will definitely need to know how to sew. You should start sketching some designs and keep them in a portfolio and start with like a purse. check out local colleges and see if they offer classes in fashion design(that's what I did and I now know how to sew).

Wow, thats great, I also want to become a fashion designer :) I draw designs but i don't sow/sew. But i will be learning that, so maybe you should find some place near your town or city that teaches you how to sew or maybe you can find a person that you know thats close to you. Try searching for some fashion art schools that are affordable, for example, I'd like to go to F.I.T ( Fashion Institude of Technology ) which is NY, if you haven't known. F.I.T is a bit expensive and it is hard to get in that school but i believe its worth it; btw its one of my goals to attend that school :) you can google that school and it may help you with something that you may want to find or what ur looking for
