Returning an item of clothing..?

Basically I bought a denim shirt from topshop, it's long enough to wear over leggings and with a dress under, however trying it on in the shop I was in a hurry threw it on and was like MEUGH with a belt it will be fine and bought it. I got home and realised I'd read the american size instead of the UK and therefore it's 2 sizes too big. I thought oh well, tried it on again and it's a tent. Thing is, I kept the receipt but pulled the tag off. I still have the tag, it's just not attached. The shirt says the size and stuff on it, so it's obviously the same shirt as what's on the tag and receip. Oh and I only bought it yesterday, and the return/exchange policy is up to 14 days I think. Will they let me return it - tag detached - as long as I show it to them? or will they say an exchange? or will they just say we can't help you?
I really would like to wear the right size one this weekend :) thanks for all help!

Even if it hasnt got a tag, take it back. Topshop are quite good with refunds and exchanges as i have found out. Do you have a reciept, Take the reciept too to prove when you bought it. Explain it doesnt have a tag because it was a gift, and the person who gave you it chopped it off! They always exchange when you say that!

Good luck!

With the tag (attached or not) and receipt that'll be a straight forward return. If they say no, they obviously have no idea what they are talking about and you have the right to kick, scream and make a fuss!

I did the same! Just return it and explain what happened. As long as you take the tag as well it should be fine. There was no problem when i did it.

I would say the policy is no, but under these circumstances it is worth a try. Be as pleasant as you are here, and non threatening. When you go in, ask to speak with the mgr. Tell them you understand the policy but in this case it looked like it was ruined by the removal of the price tag...which was not done by you. And that you are not looking for the cash back, you just want this item without a flaw which was caused by one of their employees. If they say no, tell everyone!

Take it back, they have guns that they use to re-attach the tags, as long as you have it its fine! I work in a shop, we accept returns without the tag all the time :)

many companies will let you take it back, but the sooner, the better.

they are much more likely to be helpful if you make it clear that what you want is the shirt in a smaller size, so say that FIRST!

I'm sure they will change it no problem, they should be able to reattach the tag easily. Take it back :)

your best bet is to try it and explain the situation as different stores have different returns policies and i don't think you lose anything by trying - at least you'll know one way or another.

They should be able to give you your money back as you have all the bits and it was so recently purchased. Take it back today.
