Question:
Would it be wrong to ask my parents if I could shop at Hot Topic if I am a Christian?
Help Me :)
2008-12-20 06:56:38 UTC
I like some of Hot Topic's merchandise like their skinny jeans and high-tops (and some other clothes), but I am afraid to ask or go in there with my parents (becuase Hot topic from the outside kind of looks dark and evil, but they have some really kewl and awesome stuff too :} )

I don't know if I should ask them to walk in there because I like some things or just forget about it.

Please Help...

All of my friends are Christian and some of them shop at hot topic. It might freak your parents out at first. I went in just for a pair of plain black leggings, and my parents about had a heart attack. The music and some of the merchandise can be really intimidating, so just give them a talk before you ask or go in. Say that you aren't into the weird mega-gothic stuff, but the more toned down things like skinny jeans and Converse. And it will help that all of the Hot Topics I've been in, the sales associates are super friendly, even if their hair is like bubblegum pink and they have a ton of tattoos and piercings.

Order online or show your parents the stuff your interested in without going into the store. Because not everything in that store is dark and evil. I am Christan too and i got my Fred (youtube star) shirt there.

Wet seal also sells skinny jeans, without the Hot Topic image your parents might not approve of.

I think you should ask... Hot Topics really not that bad and my friend's sister is Christian and she shops there all the time and her parents didn't care at all, but if your parents don't like the idea of you shopping there then just tell them that you like the jeans or the shoes..... They should understand

NO, it wouldn't be wrong. I shop at Hot Topic all the time. And I'm very Christian. People that like to wear gothic type clothes

and are Christian are called Christian Goths. if you want to check it out more go to Christaingoth .com. you can show your parents that it's ok to wear clothes like that and still be Christian.

If you really like their stuff, be honest with you're parents. Just because Hot Topic is not a Christian Store, does not mean it is filled with sin or that you are wrong for liking it. You should not look down on other people or establishments just because they are different than you (or have sinned).

Remember what Jesus said,

"Father, forgive them. They know not what they do."

Follow in his example!

it wouldn't hurt to ask. explain to your parents that they make the store look dark and strange because it highlights the merchandise. if you tell them that some of the clothes are priced very reasonable compared to some of the other stores in the mall that might convince them. some of the stuff in there might offend the average christian, but it is a cool store.

Just ask them. I know a lot of parents are strict, but once they go in the store and realize not everthing is "bad," they won't care. Or, show them a picture of the things you like online first, then take them to the store.. that way they know you are looking for a specific thing.

It never hurts to ask. We are Christians and my son shops there. Just don't get any of the dark stuff. He bought a Jesus loves this guy shirt there.

ok, it's just a store, and going in there won't mae you any less Christian, I'd tell your parents that and say that I'm not going into that store for evil crap, I just like some of their clothes. Hope I helped!

Go to the website, show them what you want to buy, and show them that its not bad.

Most of the people I know who shop at hot topic are nice, christian people.

I don't think God forbids you from shopping at hot topic.

its never wrong to ask about an issue you are unsure of. if you are under 18, and they forbid you to shop there you should respect their decision. i don't have an issue with shopping at hot topic, but if your parents are strict, as long they don't ask you to disobey scripture you should honor them as the commandment says. if they allow you to shop at hot topic, invite them to join you. they can learn about your generation's trends if they are open. this way, they could grow a better understanding of who you are as well. christianity has rules to follow, but relationship with Christ is its foundation.

Ask them. If they're skeptical, just explain yourself and tell them that it's not an "evil" store and that lots of teenagers and even adults enjoy shopping there. Hopefully, they'll understand. If not, just ask for money, and you can go shopping there with your friends later.

it depends welll just tell them they have reasonable clothes n u want to get the good stuff only

usually the shop guy helps teenagers when they want to get something parents dont agree about it

try not to get dark stuff , it's not good for the christmas spirit

good luck

Hello =D

ummm. . . its just a store.

i mean some of the people that look 'dark and evil' are the nicest people i have ever met.

dont worry about it . if your parents dont understand explain.

its just a store and i just want to buy stuff they sell.

mostly i think your over exaggerating their reaction.

im sure they will be fine.

No, of course not. They sell band tees for The Devil Wears Prada, which is a christian band, so I'm pretty sure it's okay.

No, it's not wrong. Evil is what you do, not what your clothes say about you. I sometimes despair about stupid christian values like this, about where you can and can't shop. It's your life, no-one elses
liz *no crazy way?!*

I would ask them, just tell them that the only reason you're going in there is because you like their clothes, and you want to buy some.

Explain to your parents that it is just a stupid store and the devil does not reside there. It is not scary it is actually a trendy store.

unless they are very strict, you should be upfront with trem, in case they say no, dont turn aggressive, and make you point very clearly, explin the reason youi want to go in there, they are your best friends

i think it would be okay. just tell your parents that you like their skiny jeans, high tops, etc. they should understand. it's not like it's the "devil's lair" or anything

You should watch out, they have a lot of mixed fibre blends in there... your Christian friends might stone you to death.

If you were a real Christian you would know that from bible study.
